• This legislative session, the WSCA built a coalition with 17 other healthcare professions to promote HB 1655, the bill that would require insurance carriers to include annual cost-of-living increases in their provider agreements.
  • Turnout both from chiropractors and these other 17 professions was phenomenal and really made the difference in educating lawmakers about the non-negotiability of provider contracts and the decades that providers such as chiropractors have gone without a raise.
  • Unfortunately, this being a short legislative session, it was not unexpected that we would have difficulty securing a hearing in Appropriations for our bill.  Ultimately, we were not given a hearing and HB 1655 is now effectively “dead” for 2024.
  • We will reintroduce this bill next year, but in the interim, the insurance carriers have reached out to us to see if we can make progress without the need for legislation.  We will work with them on those efforts, but either way, we are seeking this legislation in 2025.
  • Stay tuned to your WSCA newsletters for more information on the upcoming elections and how you can help us lay the groundwork for a successful COLA bill next year.
